My story for Embrace the Passion: Pets in Space 3 is set in my Galactic Gladiators series which takes place on the lawless desert world of Carthago. It is a world of dangerous deserts, gladiator fights, and deadly beasts.
In the capital city of Kor Magna, the city’s famous arena is
home to gladiator fights that draw huge crowds. For the gladiators of the House
of Galen, their battle cry is “for honor and freedom.” These warriors don’t
just fight for the cheers of the spectators, but they are true heroes, helping
to rescue and protect those in need. That includes some abducted humans from a
distant planet called Earth.
In the desert, the only way for travelers to safely cross
the deadly dunes is to travel with a caravan. The Corsair Caravan is known as
the best—keeping their travelers safe, no matter what. It is filled with heroes
of a different sort. Always ready to extend a friendly hand and help those less
fortunate.
My story, Desert
Hunter, takes place on the Corsair Caravan, and the caravan master’s
right-hand people—Mersi and Bren—rescue a scruffy alien canine they call Fiend.
For all his sharp claws and barbed tail, Fiend is also a hero—a protective
friend who will stand between danger and those he considers his own.
I love knowing that all my heroes on Carthago will be
contributing in some small way to the real-life heroes of the charity hero-dogs.org.
Here’s a small snippet from Desert Hunter, starring my canine hero, Fiend:
Fiend was back on
alert, staring at the dune again.
Mersi brushed her
sweaty hair back. “What now?”
A muscle ticked in
Bren’s jaw. “Nothing good.”
Figures appeared on
the crest of the dune, clothed in ragtag garments and brandishing weapons.
Her belly clenched
into a hard knot. “Sand pirates.”
There were so many of
them. She yanked out her laser pistol again and quickly checked it. Her charge
was going to run out long before the pirates were gone.
Fiend growled.
