Funny Thing About Writing Your Story
by S.E. Smith

One of the things I’ve learned about life is you always have to be ready for the unexpected. I swear that just when you think you have everything planned, something is bound to throw a monkey wrench into the gears and everything goes haywire. This can happen both in the story and in real life!

I never expected when I started writing my story Heart of the Cat: Sarafin Warriors Book 3 for the Embrace the Passion: Pets in Space 3 anthology just where this amazing story would take me. From a mythical legend to the present, I feel like I’ve been on an incredible journey. When I write, it is more than writing a story, I am sharing what is happening in the lives and worlds of people who I come to know and love. The characters become real. They have hopes, fears, dreams, and sorrows that I experience with them. They make sure that I understand how important it is to them that I share who they are, where they come from, and what they’ve been through. Sometimes this means having more of a backstory so that you can live and experience their lives right along with them. I can’t help but cheer on the characters as they weave their way through their adventures, finding, learning, and falling in love.

I mentioned early that sometimes even the best laid plans get a hiccup. I want to express a very special thank you to Pauline Baird Jones and Veronica Scott for being so patient with me. I was running behind on sharing Trescina and Walkyr’s story and they had granted me an extension. Well, I had another hiccup, or should I say fall down a flight of stairs, that left me with a fractured ankle. Yes, this will probably end up in a story one day, LOL. I often use real life situations in my stories. I also love to hide ‘Easter Eggs’ in them. I have an amazing one in Heart of the Cat. I can’t wait to see who can figure out what it is!

  1. lol I don't even try to have everything planned. Everything is unexpected. If I can get a good grasp on the agenda for the day just past, I'm ahead of the game.
