When old tech beats new tech
The SkyRyder’s Corp usually has the best of all equipment. So naturally they possess the best long range communication technology available, and it worked well against Scavengers. General Powell could run any battle far away from the battle zone with ease. However, when he sent his battle plan to MAC, this time it was rejected, based on the video that Alisha risked her life to take. The drug cartels had jamming equipment for long range communications. It wants Colonel Logan to fly with the Ryders and command the battle from the air.
General Powell is furious. He considers Logan to be his worst colonel, and if he had a say, the man would be booted from the Ryders, only no matter how many negative assessments he gives Logan, MAC refuses to demote or dismiss Logan from the SkyRyders. Check the except below to see how this turns out…

Meet Alisha: A young woman who refuses to live the life her parents want.
In a single month, Alisha Kane has gone from a wealthy debutante to street girl to scavenger. While testing her new flying skills in the Cully Canyon, Alisha incurs a near-death crash landing. She’s “rescued” by a colonel of the SkyRyders and her life changes forever.
Meet Logan: A SkyRyder colonel in charge of a sleepy fort with little to do other than arrest the occasional scavenger.
For the first time in his life, Logan’s attracted to a young woman, only she’s probably a scavenger and he’ll have to arrest her. But first he offers her a shower and food while he checks on his crew. His videographer has captured her extraordinary flight through the Cully and her flying is astounding!
He forgoes arresting her and puts his career at risk by asking MAC to assess her skills and integrity as a potential SkyRyder. If he can get Alisha into the SkyRyders, it will be his greatest contribution to the Corps.
Upon seeing her arrival, MAC upgrades Alisha’s test. Her flying skills are not just excellent; they exceed what was previously thought possible. MAC classifies her as its top asset and soon she proves her value.
But…the SkyRyders remain a male dominated Corps where Alisha’s sense of right and wrong often clashes with her superiors. How long can a rebellious young woman survive in a regimented Corps?
Once the general was satisfied Logan understood the plan, he rolled up the charts. “Time to get down to the strip. You realize they’ll be searching for you up there.”
Logan nodded. When the drug marketers discovered the Ryders communicated on low coms, they would try to locate and take out the commander to disrupt the attack.
“If something happens and you don’t come back, I just want you to know I’ll look after your girl for you.”
Logan sighed. “General, if you want to do me a favor, then just stop calling her ‘my girl’.”
“I wasn’t alluding to anything improper. It’s just you recruited a remarkable young woman, and you must realize how painful it is for me to say that.”
Logan wasn’t actually certain which objectionable bias made it painful: that the remarkable recruit was female, or that Logan had done something right.
The general sighed. “All I’m saying is if something happens to you, I’ll see she’s not lost in the ranks.”
The general really didn’t get it. Alisha could no more get lost in the ranks than a professional basketball player could go unnoticed at a dwarf convention. MAC will ensure she’s properly utilized, and nothing the general or anyone else might do can stop her success.
Still, the general had never offered him an olive branch before, and since he fully intended to return from this battle, he accepted it gracefully. “Thank you, sir. I appreciate the thought.”
